Discover one of Crete's most beautiful gorges.

Escape the crowds and explore the breathtaking natural beauty of Agia Irini Gorge, in the heart of western Crete.

The gorge

Located near the village of Agia Irini, on the southern slopes of the White Mountains, this spectacular gorge offers an unforgettable hiking experience through towering rock formations, lush vegetation and impressive mountain scenery.

Follow a beautiful trail surrounded by pine trees, cypress forests and aromatic Mediterranean plants while discovering the remarkable biodiversity of the region.

Agia Irini or Samaria?

Unlike the busier Samaria Gorge, Agia Irini offers a quieter, more intimate experience, making it an excellent choice for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts.

Before you go

The walk starts in Agia Irini village and finishes near Sougia, about 7.5 km with roughly 500 m of descent. Expect rocky trails, uneven ground and sections along the gorge bed. A moderate physical condition is enough. The best season is spring to autumn.
